Camping near Castets and Linxe

40 km from your campsite in the Landes, discover Castets and Linxe, two typical villages in the middle of the Landes pignada, on the borders of the Landes de Gascogne and the Basque Country.

Castets

With nearly 2,400 inhabitants, Castets is one of the most important villages in this little corner of the Landes that we love so much. Classified as a "Station Verte", it offers its visitors a peaceful and preserved living environment, in the heart of the pine forest. The wooded areas crossed by rivers and a host of hiking trails make nature-loving campers happy.

A heritage circuit invites you to discover several heritage treasures: the Saint-Barthélemy-et-Saint-Roch church, the neo-classical town hall, the 15th century Gothic bell, the huge sequoia tree (60 m high) planted in 1870 on the Jean d'Anse square or the old forges of Castets, now in ruins.

Along the coastline, a cycle path leads to the beaches of Cap de l'Homy and Lette Blanche in Vielle-Saint-Girons. Water sports enthusiasts will be able to practice their discipline in complete freedom: surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing or stand-up paddle. If you've been dreaming of a seaside camping holiday in the Landes, you'll be delighted!

Linxe

Situated on the old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, between the forest and the ocean, the nearby village of Linxe is also worth a visit. Take advantage of your camping holiday in the Landes to discover this small village of about 1500 inhabitants, where the small Binaou stream flows into the Léon lake, one of the largest lakes in the Landes. It takes only 10 minutes to reach the banks of the lake.

The village of Linxe is very popular with walkers and cyclists. The cycle path "Lo Camin de Hé" ("The Railway" in Gascon) offers a beautiful ride through the forest to the beach at Vielle St Girons. The greenway follows the route of the old Landes railway which once linked the village of Taller to Saint-Girons.

In terms of heritage, the church of Saint-Martin de Linxe (12th century) is worth a visit. It was fortified during the Hundred Years War. You will also appreciate the walk around the "Jean de Linxe" airial where some hundred-year-old oaks still remain. If you are in an adventurous mood, you can canoe down La Palue from Castets to Lake Léon.
