From stand-up paddle to sailing, surfing and kitesurfing, water sports are very popular on the beaches of the Landes! This will make your camping holiday a bit more sporty than you expected!
Canoeing and kayaking
Canoeing and kayaking is the favourite water sport for families and is accessible to all, from 7 to 77 years old. It can be practised at sea, in rivers or on the Landes lakes. It is an ideal activity for hiking on the Mimizan lake, the Cante loup river in Saint-Paul-en-Born or the Contis current between Saint-Julien-en-Born and Lit-et-Mixe. For a more sporting activity, you can opt for sea kayaking, kayak-surfing or wave-skiing (more similar to surfing).
Stand Up Paddle
Stand up paddle (or SUP) is a very popular water sport in the Landes and is accessible to all. You can stand, kneel or sit on a board that you steer with a paddle. Where to practice paddle in the Landes? On the Mimizan stream or the Aureilhan lake, as well as on all the waterways of the Côte d'Argent (ocean, rivers and lake).
Sailing
In the Landes, sailing is THE sport of escape par excellence and an unavoidable sporting activity when staying at a campsite by the sea. Thanks to a variety of supports, light sailing is a nautical activity accessible to all. For children: dinghy, optimist, bug, laser... And for adults, sporty sailing in catamarans: Topaz, Hobie Cat, Newcat, Funboat... Close to our campsite in the Landes, in Mimizan-Plage, many sailing schools offer equipment rental, courses and training for all levels.
The Hawaiian pirogue
A newcomer to the world of water sports, the Hawaiian pirogue is a fun and original water activity that has been very popular in the Landes and the Basque Country for several years. Inspired by traditional Polynesian boats and composed of a hull and an outrigger, the Hawaiian pirogue combines the joy of gliding with stability. Discover it on the Mimizan and Biscarrosse lakes!
Surfing
The Landes coast is the ideal destination for surfing and bodyboarding. The department is home to some of the best surfing spots in the South West. Many of the seaside resorts in the Landes have surf schools where you can learn to surf safely on the waves of the Côte d'Argent.
Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing in the Landes is a dream come true for many fans of surfing and thrills! This water sport which combines the sensations of gliding and flying is very popular on the Landes beaches. Among the best kite spots are Biscarrosse, Sanguinet and Seignosse.
Windsurfing
Considered the fastest and most physical of all water sports, windsurfing continues to be popular on our beaches. Exposed to wind and waves, the Côte d'Argent is a great playground for windsurfers. Beginner windsurfers will find their happiness on the lakes of Cazaux-Sanguinet, Léon and Soustons. For more athletic sessions in the waves, the more experienced will prefer the spots of Vieux Boucau, Seignosse and Hossegor.
Sand yachting
The sand yacht is a sport accessible to all, adult, child or a person with reduced mobility. A sport of speed and sensations, sand yachting is practised on the long sandy beaches of the Landes, when the wind blows at a minimum of 18 to 20 km/h. The most famous spots on the Landes coast include Lespecier beach in Mimizan, Messanges-Plage, Moliets and Saint-Girons-Plage.
